A prom or ball is an important occasion and gives ladies a rare opportunity to get really dressed up in prom dresses or occasion dresses. As most of us only occasionally dress in such formal clothing, it can sometimes be a little daunting to know what to wear. A prom or ball is usually a really formal occasion sometimes referred to as black tie when ladies are traditionally expected to wear full length or calf length gowns. These days it is also sometimes acceptable rc flying fish for ladies to wear shorter cocktail dresses but it would be advisable to check with the host or venue if you are unsure. Traditionally prom dresses or occasion dresses are made of a luxurious fabric and are either floor length or three quarter length, often with intricate details like beading, sequins or embroidery. Inspiration for prom dresses often comes from the elaborate and glamorous gowns worn by celebrities on the red carpet for big events. A full skirted ball gown is probably the ultimate in extravagance. It is a fairytale dress that will definitely demand the attention of everyone in the room. This style of dress usually has a fitted or corset style of bodice with the skirt flaring out from the waist and reaching the floor. The bodice and skirt are often different fabrics sometimes with a bold pattern on the skirt. The term prom dress' is often used to describe a strapless gown with a skirt that flares outwards from the waist to mid calf length. Often this style of dress has a sash around the waist or a corsage and sometimes a net petticoat underneath to make the skirt fuller. This style of dress is usually all one colour but there are also occasion dresses in this style which are made from floral patterns or other prints on them. This is a really classic style which never goes out of fashion and always looks and elegant. A straight or column dress is also a very chic alternative for a prom or ball. This is usually a simple air angry bird style of dress that can have elaborate details or embellishments and can be with or without sleeves. The latest trend is for elegant and formal styles of maxi dresses to be worn to proms, formal occasions and balls. This style is floor length and usually sleeveless with an empire line or seam just below the bust which is incredibly flattering for just about everyone. Finally, if cocktail dress is acceptable, a shorter knee length dress could be worn but you could also always opt for the longer and more formal styles. A cocktail dress is still semi formal and should be made from a luxurious fabric and feature elegant details. Evening or prom dresses are available in all sorts of colours. Black is always a popular choice and never goes out of fashion. Different colours including black and white, jewel tones of red, green and blue, purples and deep pinks are also always popular. From time to time, there are trends for other colours including pastels, nudes, metallic or RC Air Swimmers greys. The ladies who want to stand out from the crowd instead of following the crowd tend to choose colours that are not in fashion to ensure that they look unique.
